Infineon's Malaysian Chip Plant Starts Operations

Infineon has opened its first Asian semiconductor plant, with an investment of US$1 billion, in northern Malaysia's Kulim Hi-Tech Park. Infineon's Kulim plant will employ a staff of 1,700 to produce its CoolMOS and Smart-Power chips, mainly used in computing, mobile phone, industrial, and automotive applications. The Kulim plant will produce these chips using 200-millimeter wafers, with a maximum capacity of 100,000 units per month.
